ABOUT JCI

JCI MEMBERS TAKE ACTION AND PROVIDE SUSTAINABLE SOULTIONS IN MORE THAN 100 COUNTRIES EVERYDAY.

JCI is a nonprofit organization of young active citizens age 18 to 40 who are engaged and committed to creating impact in their communities. Active citizens are individuals invested in the future of our world. JCI gathers active citizens from all sectors of society.

We develop the skills, knowledge and understanding to make informed decisions and take action. As globally minded young people, we all have rights, responsibilities and share goals. We find targeted solutions to local issues benefitting our communities, our world and our future. Embracing new ideas, collaboration and diversity, we have the passion and courage to address the critical challenges of our time.

HISTORY OF JCI

Our global organization of 200,000 young active citizens grew out of the vision of one St. Louisan more than 100 years ago from a constructive approach to civic problems. Founded in 1915 in St. Louis., Missouri, USA by Henry Giessenbier Jr. , the movement was spread out, and Junior Chamber International was founded with eight other countries in Mexico City on December 11, 1944.

 

HEADQUARTERS

The JCI Headquarters was established in 1951 and was located in Coral Gables, Florida, U.S.A. since 1969. In 2002, the JCI Headquarters was relocated to Chesterfield, St. Louis, Missouri, U.S.A., where the first local organization was founded in 1918. A professional staff of 20 full-time employees currently provide services to JCI members. The Secretary General is Kevin Hin.

 

JCI OPPORTUNITIES

JCI can be called an organization of opportunities. The opportunities available within JCI are so numerous that it could take a lifetime to grasp them all. Most members select those which cater to their particular needs and make the most of them. Basically, there are four opportunities within the organization: Individual, Community, International and Business. Projects are conducted in each area. As the members work on these projects, they encounter opportunities for total development.
 

INTERNATIONAL CO-OPERATION

JCI is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) with active participation in the United Nations (UN) system in the context, JCI has relations with the Office of the UN Secretary General (Secretariat) and a Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSCO). Furthermore, JCI has cooperation agreements with the UN Global Compact; the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO); the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD); the Pan American Health Organization; the Conference of Non-Governmental Organizations (CONGO); the NGO Committee on UNICEF; the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC); World Chambers Federation; the Council of Europe; AIESEC International; and Goal4Africa.

Though they come from different backgrounds and nations, they all have one thing in common: they are all formers members of JCI!

ABOUT JCI Hong Kong

Junior Chamber International Hong Kong (JCIHK)(formerly named as “Hong Kong Junior Chamber”), inaugurated in 1950, is affiliated with the worldwide leadership development organization – The Junior Chamber International (JCI). JCI has a worldwide membership of over 200,000 and more than 100 countries around the world.

In Hong Kong, we have about 2,000 members representing a network of highly motivated and forward looking young men and women who are mostly entrepreneurs or executives from a wide range of trades and businesses. The active members are between the ages of 18-40 from 21 local chapters, who make full use of their leisure hours to work for the betterment of the community and themselves.

The purpose of Junior Chamber is to provide development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change.

JCI Hong Kong Projects

Since inception, JCI Hong Kong has launched numerous projects echoed the needs of the society. That include the “Children Library” in the 50’s, the “Dragon Seed Races” for the boat people in typhoon shelters in the 60’s, the first “Ten Outstanding Young Persons Selection”, “Earth Population Awareness Program” for the Family Council and the first “Solar Heating System” for energy save in youth camp site in the 70’s, “Children Drawing Competition” and “Outstanding Young Students Selection” in the 80’s, the “One Plus One – Support Direct Election Campaign” in the 90’s, the “Right Decisions Program” promoting core value in the 00’s and the United Nations “Millennium Development Goals” and “Global Compact” Programs, the “CEO Forum” and the “Change Maker Forum” in early 10’s. Echoed with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), numerous projects focusing different goals were launched in recent years.

ABOUT TOYP SELECTION

The Ten Outstanding Young Persons Selection (“TOYP Selection”) is a flagship project founded by Junior Chamber International Hong Kong (“JCI Hong Kong”) in 1970. As of today, a total of 389 outstanding young persons have been selected.

Objectives of TOYP:

  • To give formal recognition to those young people who excel themselves in their professional endeavor and commitments to the community;
  • To promote prominent roles played by aspiring young people in shaping a better future for society;
  • and To provide an incentive to all promising young people who seek further advancement in personal achievements as well as public services.

ABOUT JCI Kowloon

JCI Kowloon was established in 1965 and is the second most senior chapter among the 21 chapters of Junior Chamber International Hong Kong. We aim to provide development opportunities for young people to learn from the 3 JC paths: Project Management, Chapter Management and Training, so as to create positive changes to themselves and to the community.

Members in JCI Kowloon include entrepreneurs, professionals and executives. Over the years, we have organised and launched a number of impactful projects for the betterment of the community and member. Through the unique platform of learning by doing offered by Junior Chamber International, our members not only grow personally but also expand their business network.
